 Alathea, mother of Rintiala and Ariana, First Sister of the Guild of Healers, nominal head of all Nueguans. Alathea intervenes in Rintiala's attempt to perform a Caesarean section on a condemned pregnancy.

 Alope is the younger sister of Dianire Redourine, and a Novice in the Healing Temple.
Alope is a precocious twelve-year-old who has left the her clan's traditional Guild of Builders to study under Rintiala.

 Some basic Aikido sword fighting techniques, a live-action sketch I did at the Saskatoon dojo.
 Variations used for the battles with the King's Guard.

 One of the intelligences Rintiala, Dianire and Ariana have to slip past to perform an illegal Caesarean section on Tianara, Dianire's older sister, and a minor member of the Guild of Builders.

 A bit slave-girlish, I know, but the Healers are going all out to compete with the others Sister's Guilds for the attention of the Apache Traders.

 Enraged that she has suffered so much loss on account of Ariana's immaturity, Dianire murders her, and thus begins the War Against the Nueguans.

 Duji, once the betrothed of Rintiala, and now one of the last survivors of the Warrior Guild, faces the combined Apache Police and Spanish King's Guard on top of the Coolidge Dam.
 More Mothersilk armor, this time allowing a male to see into the Cactus Mother. This combat decision by Dianire alienates her from all the Guilds, and convinces the Demetrans to surrender and align themselves with the Apache.

 Finds-Water, Trader of the White Mountain Apache, and chief negotiator to the Nueguans.
 I'm using Bill Nighe for my model here. Finds-Water has plans behind his plans, and prefers to be misread as a harmless old man, which he is not.

 Finds-Water holding his badge of office, the hoop of the Seven Traders, which effectively allows him to speak for all  Apache.
 The fist-with-the-hoop image is very appealing. Is hostile and suspicious, or power-through-diplomacy?

 Hunts-the-Ruins, a Phoenix Apache, and apprentice Trader.
 At the time of the Ghost Sickness chapter, there are no Phoenix Apache per se, they have to earn the right to align themselves with the Seven Tribes. Opening up Paradise Valley will ensure that.

 Rintiala and Hunts-the-Ruins leaving Scottsdale, having successfully completed their mission.
 Hunts-the-Ruins is given an Mothersilk travel cloak, to indicate his new status as Apache Trader to the Nueguans.

 Neither of them can abide wearing the full armor, and much to the chagrin of the Sean Landesten AI, they doff much of it. An experiment with the 'buck et fill' tool of GIMP.

 Hunts-the-Ruins, dressed in Mothersilk, but now shunned by both Apache and Nueguans as a criminal, finds Don Benedetto wounded on Highway 25, and tends to his needs.
 Ariana has pledged herself to Hunts-the-Ruins, and she has gone ahead with Long Jumper (Trader for the Jicarilla) to confer with King Carlos Sepulveda, ruler of New Spain.

 Hunts-the-Ruins, now half-Nuegan and half-Apache, delivers the history of the Nueguan people to the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Carlsbad.
 Hunts-the-Ruins delivers a lecture to the cognoscenti of New Spain, which is attended by Queen Ariana the Beautiful, who has no idea of her Nueguan ancestry until this meeting.
